National Day fireworks planners vow to be ready for the wind (2014/10/08)

The climax of National Day will be the fireworks shows at Port of Taichung on Friday and Saturday evenings. But there are concerns that strong winds could disrupt the proceedings.

A trial ahead of the National Day fireworks show ended in shambles due to heavy winds at the Port of Taichung. The latest weather forecast predicts equally windy conditions on Friday and Saturday.

Chang Ta-chun
Taichung Tourism Chief
We have a comprehensive understanding of the situation. There won’t be a typhoon, and the weather will be similar to the conditions over the past two days. Therefore, the National Day fireworks program will proceed as planned.

Large numbers of spectators are expected. Traffic restrictions will be in place, and the city government is urging people to use shuttle buses.

The city’s bus rapid transit system will also dispatch 50 vehicles to the shuttle stop at Providence University to transport passengers.
