Tourism Bureau cooperates with search engine to host online travel video competition

The Tourism Bureau is working with a web search engine on a video competition featuring Taiwanese tourism. It hopes to collect all the sights and sounds of travelers as they pay a visit to Taiwan.

Travel filmmaker Hu Jie films a group of people running through the streets of Keelung.

We did live filming without preparing much in advance. When we ran, we saw some interesting things which you will see. Actually there are interesting things throughout Taiwan.

Hu’s video received an enthusiastic response from online viewers. This led the bureau to work with an internet search engine to host this tourism video competition. The goal is to attract travelers to come to Taiwan and film their journey through cities and scenic locations. The bureau believes this will spur the domestic tourism industry.

I think that we can attract independent travelers from the United States, Europe, Japan, Malaysia and other areas. If we add independent travel from China, I believe a conservative estimate would be growth of 10 percent, with a more optimistic estimate of 20 to 25 percent.

This video competition began today and will run for one year, with grand prize winner to receive a round-the-world airline ticket.
